Some of the best coves in Milos have no road to them. A small boat you drive yourself is the most flexible way to reach them — you stop where you like, swim as long as you want, and move on when the next bay looks better. You do not need a license or any boating experience to do it.

Do you really not need a license?

Greek rules let you rent small, low-powered boats without a boating license, and our Tempest boats belong to that category. The person driving needs to be an adult with an ID. Everyone else on board just needs a swimsuit.

We have two of them: the Tempest 4.5m for up to 4 people — couples and small families — and the slightly larger Tempest 5m, with more room on deck. Life jackets and snorkel gear come with both.

How the day works

We meet at our base on Paleochori beach, on the south coast, at 09:00. Before you leave, we walk you through the boat, the route, and where to stop and anchor. Then the boat is yours. If anything comes up at sea, the captains are a WhatsApp message away.

Two routes from Paleochori

West: Kleftiko and Sykia. Along the south coast to Agia Kyriaki, Tsigrado, Provatas and Gerakas, ending at the white rocks and sea caves of Kleftiko. About 5 hours as a half day, 8 hours as a full day. Tempest 4.5m · Tempest 5m

East: Polyaigos and the Sulfur Mines. Past Firligos beach and the abandoned sulfur mines to Polyaigos, the uninhabited island across the strait, with its Blue Waters and Fanara cave. About 5 hours as a half day, up to 10 hours as a full day. Tempest 4.5m · Tempest 5m

Which side you go depends on the wind. The captain tells you on the morning which coast is calm.

What it costs

  • Tempest 4.5m: from 240 € half day, 400 € full day
  • Tempest 5m: from 260 € half day, 450 € full day
  • Fuel: extra, charged by what you use — the longer the route, the more it costs

You book and pay online on each tour page and see the live price for your date.

Tips for first-timers

  • Switch the engine off before anyone gets in or out of the water.
  • Slow right down near beaches, swimmers and other boats.
  • Drop anchor on sand, not on the seagrass — you will see the difference in the clear water.
  • Leave the boat outside the caves and swim in.
  • Bring your own water and lunch. There are no shops on Polyaigos.
  • Keep your phone in a dry bag and charged — it is your line to the captains.

Rather not drive?

Sail the same coasts on the Protagon 25 with our skipper, drinks and snacks included, or follow our guide on the Jet Ski Safari to Polyaigos. Still deciding? Compare all four boats.
